What’s in a name?

Being someone who has grown up with the internet I have always played around with having my own website. It has gone through several changes of domain up to the most recent andy-powell.net. Now there are a couple of things I don’t like about this domain, it goes against the advice I give people about choosing a domain name that being go for the .com where available and avoid hypens.

Some time ago I discovered that andypowell.com was available for sale, so I enquired to buydomains.com about its purchase price.

The response $2000!

They did however say “BuyDomains will entertain all reasonable offers. ”

So I replied;

While I am interested in the domain, for a personal blog the price is well above what I would be willing to pay and in reality if you value it at that then any offer I would make I imagine would be rather insulting.

I wouldn’t be willing to pay more than a few of hundred dollars for a vanity domain.

No Response.

Anyway as the months passed I got various emails from Neil Kavanauugh, like the one below offering discounts of up to $25% but that’s still $1500 and that’s a lot of money for something you just tinker around with.

So Neil is pretty keen on selling me my own name, after all he has emailed me half a dozen times since I first enquired, and that got me to wondering who owned Neils name…

and a few minutes later…

I do!

So Neil Kavanaugh, National Sales Manager of BuyDomains.com, I don’t have $2000, or $1500, or even $500 for that matter to spend of a vanity domain, but I did have £9.99 and an account with 123-reg.

Maybe I can interest you in a swap?
