Sir, that’s the most awesome thing I’ve ever done.
If you have been hiding under a rock for the last couple of months you will have absolutely no idea that I was starting a code club, for the rest of you… it has begun. Tonight was the first day of my code club at St Margarets Primary School, and judging by the quote above it seemed to go quite well. You can find out more about what we actually did in the club blog over here but I thought I’d add keep my own record of things here.
Anyway before I started I had done some preparation, printed and laminated the scratch cards, set up the blog, a catch all email address for creating the scratch accounts and so on, the one thing I did forget which i regretted was sorting out name badges, wasn’t really a problem I just think it would have been a nice touch.
After speaking to the teacher we decided to created individual scratch accounts so the kids could access it out of school, in order to keep this simple we standardised the usernames passwords and set all accounts to a catch all email address, its not ideal but it will do. Maybe its something that MIT will address in the future.
We found in our hour we managed to get everyone set up and work through page 1 and 2 of the first project, so Its looking like it will be a couple of weeks per section.
All in all it was a very positive experience!--
