How categories should work

You know the situation, you are browsing round an online shop, looking for a particular product but cant quite find what you are looking for, so you search for something similar in the hope of finding out what category you should be looking in.

This is the situation I found myself in today with ASDA while looking for a cool box, Logically as I had seen them in store near the BBQ gear,  to me it made sense that there should be some connection between these products online too.

Tried to go back a level in the address bar…

And was¬†presented with an error page…

It seems ASDA like many companies do not follow a logical URL structure, which makes it harder for people to navigate their website efficiently and in many cases perform badly in the Search Engines.

So there you have it, Bad UX design, caused a bad user experience, and resulted in me heading off to TESCO
